An update from Melbourne's Tall Ship

Ahoy Friends

Welcome to the 24/25 sailing season. For a tall ship which relies on sail, the winds have not abated for a number of weeks in Melbourne and our crews are busy. A number of Enterprize volunteers and staff were lucky enough to be invited to a reception aboard the Mexican Navy flagship "Cuauhtémoc" A massive ship that is sailing the globe with cadets and officers. We were treated to Mexican dancing along with outstanding food and beverages from Mexico.

The Rotary sails are certainly helping us with our income along with a few charters and some longer voyages, with a couple of spots still available for our trip to Hobart in January for anyone who is keen. 9 days of high seas and comradery.

The Trustees continue to ensure the Enterprize is solvent while your Enterprize Management Team carries the weight of maintenance, operations and sailing. A huge thank you to all volunteers and staff. An enterprise like the Enterprize requires a lot of selfless contribution and I am proud of how we all work together.

And don't forget the Australian Wooden Boat Festival next February where our ship will take pride of place in the Parade of Sails on the Derwent River in Tasmania. Please come down for the few days and be a part of this inspirational sailing festival.

Shipping Report

It’s been an exciting few months on the water! Enterprize has been busy with our regular one-hour and ninety-minute weekend sails out of Williamstown, as well as a sprinkling of school and chartered trips during the week.

We hosted another successful Rotary Youth Sailing Challenge Voyage in September with thanks to all the local Rotary Clubs, introducing young participants to the joys and challenges of tall ship sailing.

Melbourne was lucky enough to host visiting Navy cadet ship Cuauhtémoc on the final stretch of her global voyage. Enterprize sailed out to greet her upon arrival, and our crew were graciously treated to a guided tour of the ship while she was in port.

Also in October, we proudly represented Melbourne’s tall ship and wooden boat community at the Melbourne Boat Show alongside our friends on Alma Doepel and Wattle. It was fantastic to share our love for maritime history with attendees, including several sails up the river from Docklands!

More recently, over the Melbourne Cup long weekend we embarked on a stunning 6-day Bass Strait Adventure where we journeyed throughout Port Phillip Bay and out the heads to Lorne, covering about 160 nautical miles total.

After that we spent a few weeks out of the water to clean and paint the hull in preparation for our trip to Hobart in a few months.

With plenty more sailing on the cards before the season is out, we thank you for your continued support, and hope to see you on board soon!

P.S. Still deciding on what to do for NYE? We'll be down in Geelong with sailing trips throughout the day and evening sails to bring in the new year.
