Winter Maintenance Fund

It’s that time of year again – winter is upon us, and tax time looms!

Earlier this year, Enterprize moved out of North Wharf, Docklands (our previous home berth of 15 years) to make way for new developments, and will soon be relocating to our new (old) home at Seaworks in Williamstown. This involves improvement works to the shed that will become our workshop space, a critical first step before we can begin our yearly winter layup.

Help us fund our relocation to Williamstown, and the materials & tools for this year’s winter maintenance in the coming months.

Layup is our maintenance period, a time for us to stop sailing and give the Enterprize some TLC. We have sails that need sewing, spars that need tarring and a rig that needs adjusting.

As our stalwart volunteers prepare to roll up their sleeves, we’re calling on our extended crew – our community, our supporters, and tall ship enthusiasts near and far – to help us keep Enterprize sailing strong.

Your donation will go directly toward relocation & maintenance costs, and help cover the impact of our non-sailing winter period. This includes:

  • Organisation of new workshop space as we move into a historic shed at Seaworks, Williamstown.
    • Hiring of electrician to upgrade electrical systems to support workshop
    • Set up working areas for sailmaking, rope tarring, woodworking, etc
    • Creation of storage and office areas to support ongoing operations
  • Sailcloth to sew replacement sails (foresail, topsail, jib)
  • Stockholm tar to protect our rigging and woodwork
  • Engineering works including renewal of the drive train (the “iron mainsail”)

With your support, we can continue to deliver unforgettable sailing experiences and the educational programs we are so proud of. From school children discovering Victoria’s maritime history, to young people developing confidence and leadership on our multi-day voyages, and anyone that steps aboard for one hour sail or a 10-day voyage – Enterprize continues to connect generations to the water and to each other. We can preserve this living piece of history for all and keep the sails of Enterprize full for years to come. Every contribution helps – no matter the size – to keep the spirit of tall ship adventure, learning, and community alive on the waters of Port Phillip Bay.

Enterprize is owned and operated by the Enterprize Ship Trust, a not-for-profit Registered Charity.
